A Daily Prayer based on Jeremiah 23

Sovereign Lord, We worship you this day as the God who fills heaven and earth. You are a God who is transcendent but also a God who is near, and there is no secret place in which a man may hide where you do not see him. I confess that there are many shepherds of our people, political leaders in our land, who follow an evil course and use their power unjustly. They destroy and scatter and drive us away rather than attending to us. I pray that you will raise up for us political leaders who will care for us, who will be righteous, who will act with wisdom and execute justice and righteousness in our land. I pray that they will put their trust in you. May you be their righteousness and may we neither fear nor be dismayed but dwell securely under their leadership. We also confess that there are many spiritual leaders among us who speak visions and delusions from their own minds rather than from your mouth, the mouth of the Lord, and fill people with false hopes. They wag their own tongues and yet say they are speaking for you. They commit adultery and walk in lies. They prophesy lies from the deceit of their own hearts. They strengthen the hands of evildoers so that no one turns from his evil. From many of our spiritual leaders ungodliness has gone out into all the land. Their own words become their oracles and so they distort and pervert your words, the words of the living God. They have prophesied even though you have not spoken to them, and they run with their message even though you did not send them. They say to those who despise your word, “It will be well with you,” and they say to those who stubbornly follow their own heart, “No disaster shall come upon you.” I pray that your hand will be against those who prophesy these lying dreams and who lead our people astray by their lies and their recklessness, when you did not send them or charge them. They have not profited us as a people at all. I pray that you will bring upon them everlasting reproach and perpetual shame which shall not be forgotten. I pray for myself and for ______________________, that you will raise up for us spiritual leaders who will speak to us with a prophetic voice, who will build up instead of destroy and gather together instead of scatter. I pray that each of them will stand in your council to see and hear your word, that they may proclaim your words to us. I pray that you will use them to turn us from our evil way and from the evil of our own deeds. I pray that all of us, every one of us who has your word, will speak your word faithfully. May your word in our mouth be like fire and like a hammer that breaks rocks into pieces. I pray that you will not turn back until you have executed and accomplished the purposes and intents of your heart for each one of us and for our land. I ask, Lord Christ, that you yourself will be a shepherd to us. I pray that you, the Righteous Branch of David and the Lord Our Righteousness, will reign wisely over our lives as our king and do what is just and right for us. May we be saved and live in safety. This I ask in your name, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Welcome

Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
