Lord God, I pray in Jesus' name that with your help ______________________ and I may avoid the sin of Adonijah, who put himself forward and tried to lift himself up. I pray that we will reject any temptation to angle or maneuver for position or to exalt ourselves. May we accept what you teach us in your word, that you oppose the proud but give grace to the humble. I pray that we will humble ourselves under your mighty hand, and believe that you will lift us up at the proper time, as you did for Solomon. I pray that all of us who are parents may avoid the mistakes that David made with his sons. He never interfered with them or displeased them by asking, "Why do you behave as you do?" He abdicated his responsibility to discipline and correct his sons, and it caused him great pain and grief in the end. I ask for strength and wisdom from you that as parents we may know how to intervene at the right time and in the right way with our children, and fulfill our responsibility to bring them up in the nurture and training and instruction of the Lord. May we also be like Nathan, who was always loyal to David and yet always told him the truth. He was a trusted adviser and counselor. I pray in a similar way that we will be loyal to our friends, but that we will be unafraid to confront them with the truth when it is necessary. May they find our counsel and advice to be dependable and trustworthy. I pray that you will be with us as you were with David, and that you will deliver us out of every trouble and fulfill every purpose you have for our lives. When the eyes of others are on us as the eyes of all Israel were on David, I pray that we too may show ourselves to be worthy and set a Christlike example for others to imitate. David worshiped you on his bed; so we see that we can worship you anytime and anywhere. May we continually praise you as the Lord, the God of Israel, the one who is our rock, our fortress, and our deliverer. Amen.
