A Daily Prayer based on Hosea 11-12

Lord God Almighty, As we read the words of your prophet Hosea to the people of his day, we are prompted to confess our own sins as a nation and pray for your mercy over our land. We confess that merchants in our land use dishonest scales and love to defraud. We acknowledge that we often boast of our riches and our wealth and through our wealth have become blind to our own iniquity and sin. We confess that we have been unruly against you, even against you as the faithful Holy One. We have surrounded you with lies and deceit and bitterly provoked you to anger. It would be just for you to repay us for our contempt for you. We confess that the more you have called to us, the further we have gone from you, and that often we have been determined to turn from you. But we affirm on behalf of our nation that you have loved us, that you were the one who taught us to walk, taking us by the arms. We acknowledge that you are the one who has healed us, and that you have led us with cords of human kindness and ties of love. You were the one who lifted the yoke from our neck and bent down to feed us. We pray that you will not give us up or hand us over to the enemy. May your heart toward us be changed and may your compassion be aroused toward us. We pray that you will not carry out your fierce anger or turn and devastate us as we deserve. We pray instead that you will change our hearts so that we will follow you, and that you will roar as a lion that we as your children may come trembling to you. We beg for your favor, and pray that you will talk with us as you talked with Jacob at Bethel. Please cause us to return to you as our God. Work by your Spirit that we may maintain love and justice, and wait for you always. This we ask in the name of Jesus, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
