A Daily Prayer based on Ezekiel 8

Lord Christ, We bow before you as a God of glory, and as a King who sits on your throne above the expanse. In your appearance, from your waist down you are like fire, and from your waist up your appearance is as bright as glowing metal. I pray that your hand will fall upon us as it did upon Ezekiel that we may see you for who you really are. We see here that you are a jealous God, and that you jealously long for the spirit you have made to live in us. When utterly detestable things are found in your holy places, it arouses your jealousy and drives you far from your sanctuary. We confess that our political leaders as well as our people have committed great abominations that can drive you far from us. We have piled one abomination upon another, each one worse than the last. We and our leaders have embraced secret sins and think that you do not take notice. We have turned our backs on you and worshipped false gods. We have filled our land with violence and provoked you to anger. We know that if we turn away from you, you may turn away from us and no longer hear our prayers even though we cry in your ears with a loud voice. And so I pray that you will cleanse ______________________ and me, and all the people in our land, from everything that contaminates us in either body or spirit so that you will not have to deal with us in anger but instead can treat us with love and compassion. Purify us so that you may look on us with pity and spare us. You teach us here that if we embrace things in the darkness that are detestable to you, and think that you do not see us, it is not a trivial thing and can provoke you to anger. And so I pray that we will continue to turn our faces to you that you may purify us and cause your light to shine into every corner of our hearts and souls. It is in your name I ask these things, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."
