Lord Christ, I bring myself and ______________________ before your throne this day. I pray that we will be watchful so that no one speaking in your name may deceive us. Even though many may be deceived by false Christs and false prophets, who perform great signs and miracles, may we recognize and reject error in all its forms. As you warn us in this section of Scripture, I pray that we will not be deceived regarding the time or circumstances surrounding your return. Remind us not to be alarmed when we hear of wars and rumors of wars, of nation rising against nation, of kingdom rising against kingdom, or when we hear of famines and earthquakes in various places. May we remember that these are just the beginning of birth pains and the end is still to come. Grant us courage so that we may be willing, if necessary, to be persecuted and hated because of you. Keep us from turning away from the faith in hard times, and enable us to endure patiently if we are betrayed by others. Even though the love of many grows cold because of increasing wickedness, may our hearts remain soft. May we stand firm to the end so that we may be saved. We pray that the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in every corner of our city and nation and in the whole world as a testimony to all nations and all men. May we keep our eyes fixed on the heavens in anticipation of your return. We believe that, as the lightning from the east is visible even in the west, so your coming will be. May we look for that day when the sign of your coming will appear in the sky, when all the nations of the earth will mourn, when we will see you coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory and when your angels will gather us as your chosen people from one end of heaven to the other. In your name and in hope of that day we pray, amen.
