A Daily Prayer based on Colossians 2:8-23

Lord Jesus, We worship you this day as the one in whom all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and the one who is the head over every power and authority. In you we have been given fullness, and have put off the sinful nature through a circumcision done not by the hands of men but with the circumcision of the heart done by you. We affirm that we have been buried with you in baptism and raised with you through our faith in the power of God, who raised you from the dead. We thank you that when we were dead in our sins your Father made us alive with you, and forgave us all our sins by canceling the written code that was against us and stood opposed to us. You took it away and nailed it to the cross. In the cross, you disarmed the powers and authorities and made a public spectacle of them in your triumph over them. I pray that ______________________ and I will be alert so that no one who delights in false humility and is puffed up by his unspiritual mind may take us captive through hollow and deceptive philosophies which depend on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on you. May we not let anyone judge us by what we eat or drink, or with regard to religious ceremonies, since these things are just a shadow of the things that were to come, the reality that is found in you. Since we have died with you to the basic principles of the world, I pray that you will protect us from legalistic rules – “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch!” - which are based on human commands and teachings and are destined to perish with use. Help us to see that though they have the appearance of wisdom they lack any value in restraining sinful indulgence. May we maintain a firm connection with you as our Head, and trust in you, the one who causes us to grow to full maturity in you. In your name, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."
