Lord God, We read here of your rebuke of the king of Judah for breaking a treaty he had made under oath. We see in this the importance you place on your people being faithful to their promises. And so I pray that you will cause ______________________ and me to be men of our word, men who keep our promises even when it hurts. We also find in your word at the end of this chapter that no misfortune or evil of man can keep you from carrying out your will. No matter who resists you, what you plant bears branches and fruit and becomes splendid and noble. I pray that you will plant us on good soil by abundant waters that you may cause us to grow and be fruitful despite our own failures and the hostility of others. You are the one who brings down the tall tree and makes the low tree grow tall. You dry up the green tree and make the dry tree flourish. And so I pray that we will know that you and you alone are the Lord and humble ourselves under your mighty hand, so that you may make us grow tall in you, full of dignity and stature, and cause us to flourish when we are spiritually dry. This I ask in Jesus’ name, amen.
