A Daily Prayer based on II Samuel 16:15-17:29

Lord God, As we read this story of how you frustrated the counsel of Ahithophel through Hushai, we are reminded of your power and ability to carry out your will. You answered the prayer of David that the counsel of Ahithophel would be frustrated, and you did it through a willing individual. It reminds us that you carry out your will not apart from us but through us. May we each obey your promptings, that you may use us to answer someone else's prayers. Lord, you were even able to blind Absalom's mind to superior counsel, in order to protect the life of David. I pray for myself and for ______________________ , that we will choose to believe that no one is beyond your reach, and to believe that you will protect us and preserve us until our service for you in this age is completed. Please confuse the counsel of those who intend us harm. May we also take caution from Ahithophel's example, who depended upon success for his sense of worth and purpose, and took his own life when his counsel was rejected. I pray that we will give our family and professional and ministry responsibilities the best that we have to give, and yet always choose to trust you with the results. Protect us from having so much wrapped up in success that we cannot handle failure. May we choose life and growth instead. In Jesus' name I pray these things. Amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."
