A Daily Prayer based on I Samuel 7:3-8:22

Sovereign Lord, We pray together today for our city and for our nation, that we will return to you with all our heart and put away the foreign gods that have come in among us. May our hearts be directed to you and committed to you so that we may serve you only. We claim your promise that, if we turn to you, you will deliver us as a people from the things that threaten our families and our culture. I pray in Jesus' name that ______________________ and I, all of us together, may be examples worthy of imitation for everyone we know. May we direct our whole heart to you and serve you only. Just as Samuel interceded for the nation of his day, so we pray to you on behalf of our nation. We pray that we as a people will pour our hearts out before you, emptying ourselves before you so that you may fill us up with the living water that comes through your Son and the Holy Spirit. Bring us as a people to the place where we once again confess that we have sinned against you. I pray that we will not cease to cry out to you, the Lord our God, to save us from everything that threatens us. I pray that you will hear us as we cry out to you. We ask that, as you did in Samuel's day, so today you will once again thunder with loud thunder against your enemies and throw them into confusion that they may be routed before the people of faith. You said of Samuel that throughout his lifetime, your hand was against the Philistines. So I pray that your Spirit will so empower us that as long as we live your hand may be against your enemies. We plead with you for justice in our courts. We ask you for judges who will walk in the ways of Samuel and will not turn aside after dishonest gain or accept bribes or be intimidated in any way that would lead them to pervert justice. Lord, there are times when we groan under the heavy burden of taxation we are forced to bear. We see in this account that the people of Samuel's day suffered under the heavy hand of a king because they rejected you as king over them. I pray that we as a people will once again recognize that if we do not make you our king, we will look to man and to the state to provide for us. You warn us that the consequence will be a crushing hand of confiscation and taxation. We repent of our dependence upon man and upon the state and ask that you will so work in us that we once again as a nation will make you our king and look to you alone to be our provider and defender. Amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Welcome

Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
