A Daily Prayer based on I Samuel 5:1-7:2

Lord God, We see in this story how one city after another sent you and the ark of your covenant away from them because you made life so unpleasant for them. When they did not give you glory and have high regard for your holiness, your hand was heavy against them and you terrified them; you brought devastation upon them and afflicted them. In every city you visited where you were not worshiped, your hand was heavy against that city and it was thrown into a great panic. But we also see what you did when they cried to you, and their cry reached heaven. When they offered guilt offerings to you and gave glory to you as the God of Israel, you healed them and lifted your hand from them. I pray in Jesus' name that ______________________ and I will always have a humble recognition that no one can stand before you, the holy God, apart from the merits of Christ. I pray that we will humble ourselves before you, and fall on our faces before you so that your hand will be for us and not against us. I pray that our city will embrace you and receive you and welcome you so that your hand may bless this city and lift it up. Amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."
