A Daily Prayer based on I Kings 17-18

Lord God, I thank you for the example you have given ______________________ and me in Elijah. You tell us in the New Testament that he was a man just like us, a man with a nature just like ours. Yet his earnest prayer stopped the rain for three and a half years. His earnest prayer brought a young boy back from death to life. His earnest prayer brought fire from heaven. His earnest prayer brought rain from the heavens once again. May we believe that our prayers can be as effective and powerful as the prayers of Elijah. Remind us that the energized prayers of a righteous man are powerful and effective. I pray that each of us will be righteous, and I ask you to energize our prayers through the presence and direction of the Holy Spirit that we may pray powerful and effective prayers even this day. Show us how to pray in accordance with your will. I thank you for the example of Obadiah, who was a devout believer in you while serving a godless leader in a godless administration. Yet he served you faithfully and was able to minister to your servants and to protect them because of the position you had given to him. May all of us who work in godless environments see that you have placed us there for a reason. May we serve you faithfully there, and be willing to take bold and risky steps of faith, as Obadiah did, when you call us to. I pray for our community and for our nation. I confess, Lord, that we have drifted far from you. We see an increasing division among our people in matters of faith. We are truly as a nation wavering between two opinions. I ask you to raise up men like Elijah at every level in the life of our nation to call us back to you. I ask you to confirm their message with mighty acts of power, as you did for Elijah. I pray that the men you have raised up will be recognized as men of God. Cause our nation to recognize that they bring to us your word, the word of the Lord, and that it is the truth. I ask you to demonstrate to our nation the utter bankruptcy of trusting in anything or anyone but you. I pray that you will once again show your great power, as you did in Elijah's day, so that our people will know once again that you, Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, that you alone are God in our land. Turn our hearts back to you once again. May you demonstrate your power in such a way that our people will see and fall prostrate before you and declare that you, Yahweh, you alone are God. We pray against all counterfeit religions and against all leaders of counterfeit religions. May their work and their efforts to deceive come to nothing. I pray that you will so restrain the gods they serve that when they call to their gods there will be no response, no answer, no one paying attention. May we continue to look to you for spiritual renewal for our land. As Elijah looked for rain from heaven, so prompt us to look for a fresh release of your Holy Spirit. I pray that we will continue to seek this from you in prayer, looking to the horizon for even a cloud as small as man's hand. May the wind of your Spirit once again blow through our land and may we hear again the sound of a heavy rain, the rain of your Spirit falling on our land. This we ask in the name of Jesus, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Welcome

Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
