A Daily Prayer based on I Kings 16:8-34

Sovereign Lord, We see in this section how often the leaders of Israel committed sins and did what was evil in your eyes. We read about how they caused their people to do the same things. We see the progression of evil when it is not checked; we read that Omri "sinned more than all those before him." And then we read that Ahab was even worse and "did more evil in the eyes of the Lord than any of those before him" and even considered it a trivial thing to commit the sins of Jereboam. Lord, we confess that we have chosen political leaders who have done those things which are evil in your sight, and we as a people have followed them into their sin. We have provoked you to anger and aroused your jealousy. We humbly ask you as a people to forgive us for our many sins against you. I ask you, Lord, for leaders at every level who will have hearts that are fully devoted to you and are committed to doing only those things that are right in your eyes. Please raise up righteous leaders for us who will reverse the moral decline that we see in our own day. Purify our worship as a people that we would not serve or acknowledge any false gods but instead worship you and you alone. I pray for all of us, that we each will commit ourselves to doing only that which is right and good in your eyes and to refuse to do anything which is evil in your eyes. Remind us that our example can draw others toward righteousness or into sin. By your grace, may our lives provoke others to love and good deeds and not to the sin that will provoke you to anger. We ask this for ourselves and for our children, in the name of Jesus. Amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Welcome

Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
