A Daily Prayer based on Matthew 15:1-20

Lord Jesus, I pray for each pastor and spiritual leader in our city and nation. I pray that they will refuse the temptation to adulterate or distort the word of God in any way. May they allow the plain teaching of Scripture to be their guide, especially when it conflicts with standards that are popular in our culture that are just rules taught by men. I pray they will never break the commandments of God or nullify your word for the sake of human tradition. We acknowledge that there are spiritual leaders, political leaders, and cultural leaders among our people who distort your word, and who are offended when your truth is proclaimed. They are blind guides who are leading their blind followers into a pit of spiritual decay. We release their fate into your hands, and trust that your Father will uproot them when the time is right. Please open the eyes of the blind that they may see your truth. I pray this day in your name for ______________________ as well as for myself. I pray that we too will refuse to nullify the word of God for the sake of tradition, no matter how popular that tradition may be in our culture. I pray that we will not only honor you with our lips, but that our hearts will be close to you so that our worship of you will not be in vain. I pray that we will remember that it is not what goes into a man’s mouth that makes him unclean, but what comes out of a man’s mouth. May we understand that the things that come out of our mouths come from the heart, and that those are the things make us clean or unclean. I pray by your grace and power we will reject evil thoughts that come from the heart. May we resist not only the impulse to murder but also hatred and name-calling. I pray that those who are single among us will be sexually pure and that those who are married will be resolutely faithful. May we resist and reject all forms of theft, lying and false testimony, as well as slander and abusive speech. By your grace and power, I pray that we will be pure in heart, speech, and conduct. These things I pray in your name, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."

Never before in the history of our country has America faced a moral crisis like the one before us today. The foundations of our government are crumbling right before our eyes. Our churches are abandoning God, our families are in shambles. There is only one hope for restoration - the Lord Jesus Christ.
