A Daily Prayer based on John 18:28-19:16

Lord Jesus, We read here that not once, or even twice, but three times Pilate declared that there was no basis for a charge against you. You were truly an unblemished Passover Lamb, who did not die for your own sins or transgressions but for ours. We see the sovereign hand of your Father orchestrating even the strategy of the Jews to see that the word you had spoken about the kind of death you would die would be fulfilled. You yourself said that Pilate would have had no authority over you, no authority or power to free you or to crucify you, if it had not been given to him from above. Your kingdom is not of this world but from another place. Help us as your followers to understand this so that, even though we live in the world, we may not wage war as the world does, but instead use the divinely powerful weapons you have given us to demolish the strongholds of Satan. The reason you came into the world and were born as a man was to bear witness to the truth, the truth about God and the kingdom of God. We know that everyone who is on the side of the truth, everyone who is of the truth, listens to you, and so I pray that I and ______________________ will be among those who pay close attention to your word. The Jews pressured Pilate, shouted at him, and threatened him, and we know that Pilate only handed you over to be crucified out of fear and weakness. Yet we know that the ultimate reason you were crucified is because you chose to go to the cross, to offer yourself as the Passover Lamb for our sins and for the sins of the world. Even though others may reject you still, I pray that we will bow before you as our rightful King and Savior. In your name, amen.

"There is no better way to pray according to the will of God than by praying his own word back to him. These daily prayers are crafted, as much as possible, to incorporate the very words of the Scripture."
